AI-native building for operators with buyers
Founder, Windmill Ventures. Sunny Gambhir
A two-person team can now scaffold what used to take a floor of engineers. That is real. It is also not the hard part of a WealthTech or HealthTech product.
The hard part is still: what the buyer will actually put in front of a client, what a security review will ask, who owns the data, and whether anyone will pay. AI compresses the build. It does not compress a family office’s procurement, or a clinician’s trust.
What we use it for, and what we do not
We use models to move faster through research, scaffolding, and iteration. That is how a small studio can fund a full build instead of invoicing for one. Every architectural decision, and every line that reaches production, is owned by a named senior person. We will not tell a regulated buyer that “the agent wrote it.”
In these markets the differentiator is rarely the model. Everyone rents the same ones. The differentiator is the audit trail, the workflow the advisor or clinician already has, and whether the product survives a diligence call. Build those first and the AI is sellable. Leave them out and no institution signs.
Why the operator still has to exist
A studio that generates fifty ideas and hires CEOs is a different firm. We do not recruit operators for concepts we invented. You bring the market. We bring the product, and we carry its cost until it earns.
That is also why we will not take a “build me an AI for wealth” brief from someone who cannot name five buyers. Faster code makes the wrong product cheaper to produce. It does not make it more likely to sell. Our return is a share of your revenue. We are wrong about the same things you are wrong about, at the same time. That only works if you can already reach the people who would pay.
- You stay CEO. We do not take the company in exchange for a repo.
- Scope is signed before we write production code. Overruns are ours.
- AI is in the method. It is not the product unless the buyer asked for it.
If you already have the buyers, the useful question is not whether AI can write the first version. It can. The useful question is whether you want a partner whose upside starts only when yours does. The terms for that are on the model page.
The commercial terms this essay refers to are on the model page.
